Nutrient Dense Produce for YOU
With Sonoma County “Sheltering in Place”, providing our community with Nutrient Dense Produce is an Essential Service that we feel strongly about. Singing Frogs Farm is currently planted with hundreds of beds of healthy, nutrient dense food. Our nursery is bursting at the seams with another hundred beds worth of seedlings. Our seed storage is full and ready to continue providing us with many more months of seedlings. It’s a time of uncertainty but here are some things we can be sure of: The sun will continue to shine. Photosynthesis will continue, plants will grow, roots will feed the soil food web, the soil will feed the plants, and we all need to eat. We will continue to do our best to get it to you and your family.
Farmers’ Markets
We’ll be at both the Saturday Santa Rosa Original Farmers’ Market at the Luther Burbank Center and the Sunday Sebastopol Farmers’ Market this weekend. Innovations we’ve made the last two weeks:
- We will be implementing a full-service style booth with all produce located behind our farm crew to prevent customer handling;
- One farm crew member will be handling only produce (with gloves) and one will be handling only cash (with gloves);
- All farm crew selling at markets will be following strict sanitation guidelines, washing hands regularly, wearing gloves, masks and eye protection;
- We will have our own hand washing stations for crew as well as for you.
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)
Our CSA Boxes are beautiful this time of year. Unfortunately the CSA is currently full with an extensive waitlist. We generally have a waiting list this time of year because there is less produce in early spring as we are coming out of winter where fewer hours of sunlight means less photosynthesis and therefore plant growth. Additionally, fewer local farms have produce and many backyard gardens are not in production so demand is higher. Certainly the situation with COVID-19 has also drastically increased demand for local, nutrient dense foods and we’ve had a flood of requests the last week. We hope to get everyone on the waiting list by June if not earlier. If you would like to be added please fill out this form.
Extra Farm Boxes
With the demand for fresh produce high and the loss of our restaurant sales we will be offering one time Salad / Mini-CSA Boxes starting next week. Watch your email inbox for more information on how to order.
Precautions we’re taking on the farm
As well as changes at Farmers’ Markets we are making many changes on the farm including:
- Running our on-farm staff as a skeleton crew. We and our crew are a farm family, with many of us living on the property with very limited outside interaction. Our biggest outside interaction is at farmers’ markets.
- No visitors. Sadly this means all regularly scheduled farm tours, events and workshops have been canceled for March and April.
- Practicing hand washing, increasing the number of hand washing stations with a change to compostable paper towels rather than cloth towels.
- Wearing gloves for any harvest or fresh produce handling.
- Frequent washing of tools and surfaces with a bleach solution. Use of single-use box liners and bags.
- If team members might become ill (none are), they will be instructed to stay home with sick pay and/or offered off-site work.
