Barbra Friedman Bunnies At Play

Start a new Easter tradition: Barbra Friedman, who has a massage practice in Forestville and for years produced beautiful dried wreaths and floral arrangements for her Bennett Valley Farm, is holding spring workshops on the ancient Japanese art of ornamental Washi eggs.

The next session is April 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be a final session the following Wednesday, April 8. Classes are held at Coffee Catz (6761 Sebastopol Ave., No. 300, Sebastopol).

“Washi” means paper in Japan and refers to the handmade mulberry paper used to cover the egg shells, which symbolize new beginnings and are shared with friends and family for years.

The workshops are $25, which includes materials for four eggs.

If you are looking for a unique way to entertain kids, you might consider a Washi egg party at your home.

To register for one of the scheduled workshops or to discuss a private class, call Friedman at 696-2009 or e-mail her at To see a Washi egg, visit
