With the farm full of nutrient dense produce, we’re innovating on the best ways to get it safely from our fields into your kitchen. Read on for more..

Nutrient Dense Produce for YOU

With Sonoma County “Sheltering in Place”, providing our community with Nutrient Dense Produce is an Essential Service that we feel strongly about. Singing Frogs Farm is currently planted with hundreds of beds of healthy, nutrient dense food. Our nursery is bursting at the seams with another hundred beds worth of seedlings. Our seed storage is full and ready to continue providing us with many more months of seedlings. It’s a time of uncertainty but here are some things we can be sure of: The sun will continue to shine. Photosynthesis will continue, plants will grow, roots will feed the soil food web, the soil will feed the plants, and we all need to eat. We will continue to do our best to get it to you and your family.

Farmers’ Markets

We’ll be at both the Saturday Santa Rosa Original Farmers’ Market at the Luther Burbank Center and the Sunday Sebastopol Farmers’ Market this weekend. Innovations we’ve made the last two weeks:

  • We will be implementing a full-service style booth with all produce located behind our farm crew to prevent customer handling;
  • One farm crew member will be handling only produce (with gloves) and one will be handling only cash (with gloves);
  • All farm crew selling at markets will be following strict sanitation guidelines, washing hands regularly, wearing gloves, masks and eye protection;
  • We will have our own hand washing stations for crew as well as for you.

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)

Our CSA Boxes are beautiful this time of year. Unfortunately the CSA is currently full with an extensive waitlist. We generally have a waiting list this time of year because there is less produce in early spring as we are coming out of winter where fewer hours of sunlight means less photosynthesis and therefore plant growth. Additionally, fewer local farms have produce and many backyard gardens are not in production so demand is higher. Certainly the situation with COVID-19 has also drastically increased demand for local, nutrient dense foods and we’ve had a flood of requests the last week. We hope to get everyone on the waiting list by June if not earlier. If you would like to be added please fill out this form.

Extra Farm Boxes

With the demand for fresh produce high and the loss of our restaurant sales we will be offering one time Salad / Mini-CSA Boxes starting next week. Watch your email inbox for more information on how to order.

Precautions we’re taking on the farm

As well as changes at Farmers’ Markets we are making many changes on the farm including:

  • Running our on-farm staff as a skeleton crew. We and our crew are a farm family, with many of us living on the property with very limited outside interaction. Our biggest outside interaction is at farmers’ markets.
  • No visitors. Sadly this means all regularly scheduled farm tours, events and workshops have been canceled for March and April.
  • Practicing hand washing, increasing the number of hand washing stations with a change to compostable paper towels rather than cloth towels.
  • Wearing gloves for any harvest or fresh produce handling.
  • Frequent washing of tools and surfaces with a bleach solution. Use of single-use box liners and bags.
  • If team members might become ill (none are), they will be instructed to stay home with sick pay and/or offered off-site work.

What’s in season at Singing Frogs Farm

This week we’re harvesting a plethora of lettuce: beautiful 1 lb heads of Red Butter Lettuce, delightfully speckled Forellenschluss, green oak leaf Panisse, Red and Green Mini Romaines, plus our winter lettuce mix. We’ll also have Spinach, Arugula, Mustards, Baby Bok Choi, Napa Cabbage, Braising Mix, Baby Bulb Fennel, Caracas Carrots, Easter Egg and French Breakfast Radishes, Rainbow Chard, Red Russian Kale and Rainbow Kale, Baby Romanesco Cauliflower, Multicolored Cabbage, Parsley, Chives and Pea Shoots! Plus we’ll have our nutrient dense, pastured Eggs from Farmer Donald of Meandering Farmers.

Thank you all for your support!

Stay Safe and Healthy!

Before an item even reaches a grocery store shelf, it has gone from field to truck to warehouse to trolley to shelf, handled by scores of people with  unknown health status.

Worried? Come to the Santa Rosa Farmer’s Market tomorrow where food is minimally touched and comes directly from the farmer to your hand. Healthy farmers who are there talking with you in person. It was their hands who picked that carrot or put that steak in the ice chest just for you.

Stock up on our premium Sonoma coastal beef – delicious roasts, ground, steaks, stews, sausage and more. We have most cuts and can provide guidance in how to prepare it. All animals are born and raised on the Sonoma coast, 100% grass-fed and grass finished, dry-aged for 21 days.

We also have some select goat pieces – shoulder, loin roast, breast and ground. And duck eggs.

Ingredients for complete, delicious, balanced meals are available at the market: meats, vegetables, fruits and more. Grown by the farmer and brought directly by the farmer to you. Clean, fresh and here.

For those who would like to venture out to the clean, fresh air of the Sonoma coast, our on-farm store is open with a selection of meat, eggs, goat hides and pet treats.  We also ship nationwide. The weather was gorgeous out here today, sunny, brisk and full of fresh ocean air.

The Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmer’s Market is open from 8:30 to 1 pm at the Luther Burbank Center at River Rd and US 101 in Santa Rosa. If you want to spend minimal time in public, you are welcome to call or email us ahead of time (or text to: 707-775-9604) and we will put together your order and have it waiting for you. You can even pay ahead over the phone to minimize out and about time.

Stay safe,
Lesley

Well there may not be any Basket Ball this month but there sure is March Madness.   I have heard it said that challenges and struggles can bond relationships, and I feel that is true, with all we have experienced at the Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market I feel as close to my Farmers Market vendors and customers as I do my natural family members.  We have been discussing the present situation with  our vendors,  they are committed to providing you, our customer, with the fresh produce and quality products you depend on them to provide.  As long as there is not a mandate ordering us to close we will be operating our market every Wednesday and Saturday.

We are working vigilantly to keep our market safe for everyone, vendors will not be present if sick, we are suspending tasting for the time being, and sanitizing all hard surfaces through out the market.
