October 26th the market is having a kid’s pumpkin decorating event.   There will be free pumpkins for the first 50 kids.    There will be other fun too.

This time of year, people are celebrating Halloween and Day of the Dead.

Gandalf’s Fine Chocolates has chocolate skulls.  Alma’s Oil Cloth has wonderful paper decorations and sugar skull decorating kits.  Alma has some great pictures of of her Day of the Dead alter and decorations on her facebook page

There are plenty of pumpkins of all sizes , shapes and colors.

Looking for great treats to avoid tricks — Give out Gandalf’s candy or toffee from Grizzly Sweets and you will be the most popular house on the block.

Threads of Time’s seasonal aprons are so cute especially the kid sized apron with Halloween on one side and Christmas on the other.  Very clever.

Ariel from Tusque Farms    “In my opinion, October is the most magical month in Sonoma County.  Warm days, cool nights, golden light, and a huge diversity of produce to be found at the farmers’ markets.  Farms are harvesting the last of their Summer crops and the first of their Fall crops, making your wildest seasonal culinary dream a near certain possibility.  There’s no other month when you can get tomatoes, peppers, melons, chestnuts, and pumpkins alike, all grown in the same county”   Greens of all kinds from luscious lettuce to hardy winter greens, cauliflowers, broccoli.

Shopping list for the Wednesday market
Figs and blue cheese are such a great combination. Several vendors have figs and Penny Royal Farm has award-winning blue cheese.

Start your shopping trip with a gentle massage from Body Balance Massage. While you listen to Hank Levine plays the accoustical guitar. Then further relax with a great cup of coffee from Gaga Cafe (and you can take beans home!)

Chefs in the house today are Penang Kitchen – have a great taste of Malaysian voted the best street food in the world and the Green Grocer everything is locally sourced and really really good.

Start your Day of the Dead Holiday shopping. Alma’s Oilcloth and Chucherias has wonderful decorations and this year sugar skulls to decorate yourself. Although the Day of The Dead falls around Halloween. The holidays are not similar. Learn more about this wonderful holiday. It is a great way to honor your ancestors and past along their history.
