The heat means no puppies at the market – but they still need a home.  You can find your perfect companion at the Sonoma County Animal Shelter.

La Vida Buena had their baby on June 21st and will be not be at the market for a few weeks.

Welcome to the market Neve Roses.  Market bunches of roses and other seasonal flowers.

The market now has a lot of dairy products and meat, so it’s always a good idea to bring a cooler to the market- for Saturday an especially good idea.

Microgreens are not sprouts

Microgreens are not sprouts

The only place Leap Frog Microgreens are available is the Wednesday Santa Rosa Farmers Market at Luther Burbank Center for the Arts

They may be tiny, but a new study shows trendy microgreens punch well above their weight when it comes to nutrition.

Researchers found microgreens like red cabbage, cilantro, and radish contain up to 40 times higher levels of vital nutrients than their mature counterparts.

Microgreens are young seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs harvested less than 14 days after germination. They are usually about 1-3 inches long and come in a rainbow of colors, which has made them popular in recent years as garnishes with chefs.

Although nutritional claims about microgreens abound on the Internet, this study is the first scientific evaluation of their nutritional content. Researchers say they were astonished by the results. more from Wed MD

Their increasing popularity is due partly to their ability to pack a lot of flavor in a small amount, as well as their flexibility in being included in a dish. Mix them to create a small, flavorful and delicately textured salad, or use only one or two greens to give a plate a final touch. Microgreens, in addition to their strong flavors, are also lauded for their health benefits, which can vary depending on the type of microgreen.  more from SF Gate

It's going to be a berry, berry good market.

It’s going to be a berry, berry good market.

Bring Dad to the market and get him a massage while you shop for his gift.  Even if your allowance is very small, Soultice Spa has massage by the minute.   Finding the perfect gift for your Dad (or anyone else for that matter) is no challenge at the market.

If your gift is introducing them to shopping at the market.  Give them a market gift certificate and a bunch of carrots – so they know what they have been missing.   People who are not used to eating local  don’t have any idea what they are missing.  Whether your Dad is a meat and potatoes guy or a vegan you can find a great local gift.   We have great bacon and great tempeh!

You can give the gift time with a wonderful selection of prepared foods from the market.    Mi Fiesta has complete dinners now as well as their enchiladas and tamale packages.   If you want to give Dad a party – stop at Mi Fiesta.  Vegetarian options

East-West Gourmet – Afghan prepared dishes.   You’ve probably sampled the bolani – stop by again and taste the prepared dinners.   The pumpkin dumplings (think giant ravioli) really tasty.  Many of their dishes are vegan all are vegetarian.

Penang – Kitchen has several plates that can be put together to be reheated.  If your father is a fan of spicy food stop here.  The curry is the best.  They also have house made peanut sauce for sale.  The pastry in the curry puffs are light and flaky.  vegan and vegetarian options.

If Dad is a foodie or likes to cook  everything single vendor has the perfect gift.

(Drum roll please!)

For your convenience, all in one place this Saturday morning – Sonoma’s best farmers, ranchers, chefs and craft artisans

But first a few announcements:

This is Damsel Fly Designs farewell appearance at the market.  Last chance to get some of those great bamboo socks!

Nut n Other (Angie from Dixon) -unpasteurized almond products  This is their last week until the new crop comes in this fall.

There are two parking lots serving the market one under the solar panels and the other on the west side of the market.   Follow the signs to the second parking area.   Access is at the southern end of the market.
